Friday 30th March 2012 – barbecues in March

So there we were in the butcher’s the other day, when I say ‘we’ I mean my Mistress; I was at home waiting to see what she brought back. Anyway, she was having a laugh with them about the number of customers who were complaining that they didn’t have a wider range of barbecue food on display. The lady in the butcher’s was saying that she may have been a little blunt with someone in pointing out that it’s MARCH and not normally barbecue time of year. They were just talking about how surprising it has been to have these temperatures but it’s still cold at night and you need the heating on. Then another customer came in and said ‘We’re having a barbecue…’ which was quite enough for my Mistress to burst into hysterical laughter. The poor person behind her must now wonder if a) she is crazy (answer – yes) b) they had left the house wearing very odd clothing (not to my knowledge) or c) what was funny about having a barbecue.  We now have a new definition of an optimist and a pessimist. Never mind the half full or empty glass. An optimist sees the sun in March and plans a barbecue. A pessimist is still wondering whether it is too early to take the frost covers off the plants.

Shadow has been poorly. We think she has eaten something that has affected her quite badly. She does have quite a delicate stomach and unlike her son Aristotle who can eat anything without any noticeable effect, she does end up poorly every now and again. This time has been a little more gruesome for her and she has her own parking space at the vet, but I think she is now on the road to recovery and she has thoroughly enjoyed her chicken and rice diet.
