Tuesday 23rd October 2012 – Today’s the day

We are all a little agitated and excited today. At 10.30 the girls will be off to the vet for their scans. It is either going to be a day of great celebration or a very difficult one for everyone. My Mistress has got it covered by buying steak for tea and there’s some for everyone. She’s making that the thing she adds next to her diet so that she can join in the celebration and there is enough for the four of us to have a little bit too. If I’m pacing up and down just waiting for confirmation of the pregnancies, how am I going to be when it’s time for the births? My Mistress has been working flat out to get on top of things before the puppies arrive, but you know what it’s like, the more work you do the more seems to appear from somewhere. It is keeping her out of mischief though. Ari is taking it all in his stride. He’s been sitting on the settee contentedly chewing an antler. The girls are best avoided. They are too excited to want to be anywhere near. I hope it doesn’t all end in tears.

I told you how much I had enjoyed sniffing the autumnal air, well I caught my Mistress doing it yesterday. Obviously she doesn’t have as a good a nose as we do, although it is usually as least as wet as ours are, but I don’t think that’s quite the same. She said she could smell the scent of damp leaf mulch. I said there could be a good reason for that! That is one lovely thing about living in the countryside, you can really smell the wonderful nature smells and it’s such lovely clean air. It must be awful to go out and smell fumes and not be able to hear birds sing. We really are very lucky.
