Tuesday 20th November 2012 – Five go on an adventure

Enid Blyton couldn’t have written a better story than that of our five intrepid puppies as they enter the world. They are now live on http://www.dogsclub.tv/live-puppy-cam Apparently there is some adjustment to the picture required and we have to work out how to make it possible for you see the night-time picture and for my Mistress to get some sleep. At the moment she is leaving the lights on, both to keep the warmth in the room and to provide light to keep an eye on the puppies, but as they get bigger and their bodies regulate their own temperatures we won’t need it quite so warm.

I will bring you updates during the day, telling you how each of the five is progressing. I’ll bring you some still photos of them too. I might even remember to tell you what else is going on in the world at some point.

Shadow had to have 2 injections in the end, but the second one was only to get rid of the remaining afterbirth. She had an antibiotic injection too and by last night was feeling much brighter and was back to wanting to eat her own food, much to the relief of my Mistress, who was getting fed up of sharing her meals. She has been a very brave dog. Three of her puppies were quite difficult births, 2 because they were breached and she was struggling and the other because he was big and seemed to have a large head. Funnily enough, Bumble, the biggest was the fastest to come out, when he eventually decided to join the family 4 ½ hours after everyone else.

Later this morning 4 of the puppies are having their dew claws removed so another tip to the vet is planned.

I also wanted to say thank you to our lovely friend who suggested goats milk and honey to keep Shadow’s strength up. Shadow wasn’t the least interested in it, but as they say ‘her loss was my gain’!
