I know that fundamentally we are working dogs. For some of us that means we work. For others it means they watch people work. Aristotle seems to fall into the second category. Yesterday he spent absolutely ages watching Dad work. He showed no inclination to actually work for himself, although he would argue he’d already been outside helping Mum. He also pointed out that as he’d already written Sunday’s diary that gave him an entitlement to a little time off.
If I am being strictly honest I was watching them working in the garden. Partly it was out of jealousy that I wasn’t allowed to help. I’d promised not to dig up any more of the grass… and to keep off the new bit of dug garden… and to stop eating the plants… but somehow Mum seemed to think I was not to be trusted. Anyway, watching them was funnier. Mum was trying to put some protection around young herb plants that won’t withstand the frosts. If she had done it a few weeks ago she might not have lost some of the ones that have already died, but I don’t think I’m supposed to mention that. She has a big cover that keeps things warm, but she misjudged the size of the area it had to cover and it wouldn’t stretch that far. She’s put some other covers over some of the plants and Alfie is taking bets on how long it will be before they not only blow off but altogether blow away. I pointed out she was using stakes to hold them down. He asked if they were the green ones she’d tried using some years ago that didn’t really work and it seems they were. He’s so much older and wiser than the rest of us.
Anyway Happy Monday
