My first hydrotherapy – Thursday 3rd October 2024

My first hydrotherapy

Yesterday I had my first hydrotherapy. I had been swimming once when I was younger to get me used to things, but I have to say it was all pretty strange. To begin with, we were getting to know each other and I was talking about what my goals are. I admitted to being a little anxious, but my hydrotherapist said that was understandable.

She had been Aristotle’s hydrotherapies too, so she said how sorry she was that we lost him and I felt a bit emotional.

Measurements and water

To begin with she took all my measurements and told me we had a good starting point. My legs are fairly even in terms of size. That’s a good thing as it means I’m using them fairly evenly. Actually, I think that’s quite an improvement on where I was, so I was quite pleased.

Then I got into the tank and she put a little bit of water in. I said I was fine, so she added some more. I was a bit unsure, but it was ok if I just stood still. Then she told me that the floor was going to move away from my paws and I needed to walk forwards. All I could think of was Alfie telling me about the time he went on an escalator and wondering what sort of idiot subjects themselves to a floor that is trying to get away from you.

I took a deep breath and took it step by step. We went really slowly and Mum was offering lots of encouragement and a few treats. The treats swung it really. We didn’t do much, but I’d just about got the hang of it. Apparently I have to go faster next time, which is a little worrying.
