A day with Dad – Monday 14th October 2024

A day with Dad

Yesterday was mainly a day with Dad. It wasn’t meant to be that way. When Mum put the lemons in the greenhouse, she caught her finger on the wooding shelving in there. It would have been better if she hadn’t managed to get a long splinter under the nail of her little finger. She couldn’t get it all out. When she did it she went to the pharmacy for advice and has been doing what they told her. Unfortunately she realised it was infected and she needed to see someone. As it was Sunday, that meant going to the minor injuries unit at the hospital. She was there for several hours, leaving me and Dad to entertain ourselves.

Once again I’m concerned that it is not possible for me to do my job of taking care of her if I can’t be with her all the time. I couldn’t go to the hospital waiting room with her, but she said she missed me. Now she has to take some antibiotics for a few days. I just hope the lemons are grateful.

Raking apples

While Mum was out, I helped Dad raking up the apples. I was also investigating the large hole that something has dug to get under one of Mum’s vegetable troughs. Why it was burrowing underneath when it could have climbed over the side I’m not quite sure. It isn’t even a very high vegetable trough. Mum says it just shows why putting slabs around the outside is a good idea. That’s one of the jobs I have to help with after we cut the hedge. But as the hedge cutting is delayed and the grass has grown again while we weren’t looking, I suspect it could be quite a while before we do that.
