The language we use

Psychologists say that language we use about ourselves and each other can reinforce the way we see things. If you repeatedly call someone wonderful, you and they will see themselves as wonderful. If you repeatedly call your puppy ‘a crazed loon’ then you and your puppy will see themselves in that light. Looking on the bright side ‘crazed loon’ is a downgrading from ‘devil dog’.

Pebbles got out of bed on the wrong side yesterday. She was hyperactive from the word ‘go’. One problem comes if Mum wears different trousers – or shoes for that matter. It doesn’t matter if Pebbles has seen the trousers before. If Mum wasn’t wearing those trousers yesterday then they are considered new, exciting and need to be tugged at. Mum stands on pebbles lead until she calms a little and then carries on.

Chews

Chews and rabbit ears definitely help in calming Pebbles’ wilder tendencies, but she certainly has good days and bad days. She has also taken to asking for rabbit ears every time she passes where Mum has put the bag with them in. On the bright side, keeping Pebbles focussed on acceptable chews does help to stop her going off with one of Mum’s shoes. It’s something none of the rest of us has ever done, but Pebbles is her own dog and simply won’t accept that they aren’t for her.

Paws crossed

I’ve got my paws crossed that Pebbles is ready for a good behaviour day today. She will meet her father later and I know from my own experience just how special those moments are. We dogs don’t get many chances in our lives to meet our dads and they are moments to cherish. Nothing is more important than family, even if you don’t see them very often.
