Family lunch – Sunday 1st June 2025

Family lunch

Today the humans are having a family lunch here. That’s both good news and bad news for us dogs. On the one paw – too many people! Frankly, I like a quiet life so will be keeping out of the way when everyone is around. On the other paw – I get to wash the kitchen floor. I will be on paw to help Mum with all the food preparations ahead of everyone arriving. I’m rather hoping they might leave me a little of the meat for later. This is where having a housemate who prefers fish is very good news. Mum never cooks fish. One of us is quite happy with that arrangement and the other has her own tins of sardines anyway.

Palm tree

Having killed a large rosemary plant that was in one of the tubs by the patio wall, we needed a replacement. I sent Mum to the garden centre with very clear instructions on what I wanted her to get. It needed to fit in with what we have done for keeping away the flies and wasps. That meant Mum could choose a replacement herb plant from the list I gave her. She came back with a palm tree. I’m not really sure which bit of my description I got wrong. Dad had also said it needed to be no more than about a metre high. Now, to be fair, at the moment it isn’t taller than that. However, according to the label it can grow to 6-8 metres. Mum says in the pot it won’t grow that big. I hope she’s right.

Hoppig

Some of you will immediately know what I’m talking about when I mention a Hoppig. Most of you will have no idea. Hoppig is a soft toy from Ikea which looks like us  – not just a dog, but an Entlebucher Mountain Dog. Mum had two of them and they were sitting on a chair in the dining room. I’m sorry to say there is now only one on the chair. Pebbles found them and has claimed one as her own. You would like to think she was treating it with respect and care, given how much alike we look. You’d be wrong. Poor Hoppig has been thrown in the air and shaken rather scarily. Pebbles currently isn’t showing much in the way of maternal instincts.
