Wagtail chicks – Thursday 10th July 2025

Wagtail chicks

We have the very cutest family of wagtail chicks in the garden. They are just at the age where they are out and about with their parents. Mum thinks it’s wonderful as they don’t find humans scary and simply ask her if she’s got any food for them. One of them spent sometime sitting on the window ledge of the porch. It looked as though it wasn’t quite sure how it had got there and had no idea of how to get down. Mum said its mum or dad would be along to give it some reassurance and advice. I just sat watching it from inside to make sure it was ok.

They are trying to copy their parents in the hunt for food, which is really very cute. Then they give up and wait on the stones at the side of the drive until one of their parents takes pity on them and feeds them.

Boiler repair

Mum was particularly excited that our boiler was repaired yesterday. We’ve had a week of only having cold water. Pebbles and I weren’t really affected but Mum was less than keen on cold showers. Dad took it rather more stoically. Once it was fixed, we lost Mum for ages as she went to stand under the hot water for a very long time. Humans are so strange. Personally, I think they wash far too often at the best of times.

Planning my trip

I’m busy working with Mum planning my trip to Switzerland for later this year. We’re going to be able to meet up with others in the Swiss club while we’re there, which will be great fun. I really enjoyed the meeting I went to when I was there last December. Hopefully I’ll see some of the same dogs again.

Love and licks
