Who ordered rain? – Saturday 28th February 2026

Who ordered rain?

Ok, paws up – who ordered rain? I couldn’t believe it yesterday morning, I was back to squelching with every paw step. There is now a stream running through the rose garden and no chance of more grass cutting. It doesn’t look much better for the next few days. Just as you think the world might actually dry out a little, it gives up and rains again.

Mum needs to get up on the roof of the garden room and doesn’t want to do it when it’s wet. I know that sounds kind of scary, but she can actually climb out of the bedroom window onto the roof quite easily. She isn’t going to like it, but it will be safer than going up the ladder. She needs to do it soon as there is a Peregrine Falcon to stick on the edge of the roof.

Apricot tree

Why a falcon? Well, if you were reading last year, you will know that the pigeons stripped the apricot tree of all its pollinated buds and young leaves. When we lived in Yorkshire, Mum put a falcon on the edge of the shed and it stopped the pigeons doing the same thing to a cherry tree. Mum is hoping that it will be a good way to stop the pigeons spoiling the apricot tree too.

The falcon has been sitting in his box since last summer. Mum bought him thinking she had plenty of time to put him up. She’s not absolutely sure where that time went, but if she doesn’t put him up in the next few days she’s going to be too late for this year. Unless the roof is dry the falcon won’t stick to it properly. Of course if the roof isn’t dry Mum might slip off, never mind the falcon!
