Pebbles wants a ladle
Strange as it may seem, Pebbles wants a ladle. She hasn’t stopped going on about it since her training lesson. The class has started learning a new exercise of a ‘send away’. When I learnt it, we only ever did it to ‘go to bed’, which was easy. For Pebbles though it’s a bit different. Rather than just learning to go and lie on a bed, she is learning to move away from Mum to a specific location. I’ll try to explain.
With going to bed, Mum puts a bed or mat down for us to go to lie on. In theory it’s fairly easy. I find bed a very good place to be, so picked it up quickly – especially as Mum put a treat on it to encourage me. Pebbles has had a few issues with the bed exercise. For reasons known only to herself, she freaks out when Mum tries to get the mat out of her rucksack. At that point Pebbles becomes grab bitey on both Mum and the mat. It hasn’t gone well.
Send Away
Learning her send away this week was very different. She had to go to a position between two cones. Next to the cones was a stick on the ground with a ladle tied to it about six inches above the ground. Pebbles watched a couple of treats being put into the ladle before having to walk away from it with Mum. Then she was sent to the target.
Pebbles had no problem getting the hang of finding the treats in the ladle. She is a big step from then staying by the cones and sitting when Mum tells her, but we all have to start somewhere.
Anyway, that now means that Pebbles has asked for her own ladle, so she can practice at home. I suspect Mum will give in at some point. I might even suggest I could try it too. Of course, I already know what to do, but I’d like the treats
