Who would have thought?
Who would have thought Mum would be saying how good I am? It’s true, honestly it is. Ok, so there have been headbutts, body slams, and bruises, but that is me being good. Poor old Wilma doesn’t seem to be happy whatever Mum does. She has refused to be in a crate and then when Mum asked her to spend time in the garden room on hr own, Wilma got so distressed that she climbed over the dog gate despite her bad back. Mum says we can’t take the risk of her doing that and ending up in severe pain, so now the garden room option is out too.
I may not be totally perfect. If I could be trusted not to try to open the door to the kitchen or if that fails, try breaking it down altogether, then Wilma would be fine in there some of the time. The problem is really that because she isn’t feeling herself, she desperately wants to be with Mum all the time, but not with me any of the time. As there is only one Mum, there isn’t enough to go round.
Shift work
Mum and Dad have moved onto a shift system of being outdoors with me. Mum simply couldn’t manage anymore. She has done a lot of gardening, but she is tired and strained by the whole situation and felt like she had run out of options. Whilst it is warm and dry, Dad is happy to sit outside. If the weather changes, which I think is forecast today, then we have a new problem to manage.
I do feel sorry for Wilma, but with her illness and her dementia, she really is being very needy. That isn’t helped by the steroids making her constantly hungry. Mum is trying to give her Kongs filled with the special food now to see if that can keep her a little bit occupied, but it’s hard work.
Was it really only Tuesday that I came back from kennels? It feels an awful lot longer.
