A newt, chews and Christmas lights
Yesterday could be summed up by a newt, chews and Christmas lights. Let’s start with the newt. In the outside pen where Pebbles plays there are a few dead leaves. She loves playing with them as I think I told you. Well, Mum thought she was playing with a leaf when they went out at night – but then Mum realised from the shape that it wasn’t a leaf at all. Mum immediately put a rescue plan in place and brought Pebbles into the house. Then she went back outside and returned the newt to the pond. She searched to make sure there weren’t any more around, but it was just that one. It was probably completely traumatised, but Mum thinks she might have got to it in time.
Chews
Chews and chewing are very important to a puppy. To be fair, I’m quite keen on chewing even now, but not because I’m teething. Pebbles gets her teeth around anything and everything and is especially fond of Mum’s jeans, boots and jumper. Mum is working very hard to redirect her behaviour into chewing things she is meant to have. Pebbles is already learning the command ‘chew’ as she is given something in place of the wrong thing she’s chewing. Mum keeps some of the highest value chew treats in her pocket to whip out at a moment’s notice. There was one point where Pebbles had so securely got hold of Mum’s jumper that it was hard for her to get the treat out, but on the whole it’s going well.
Christmas lights
Then there is the small matter of the Christmas lights. Pebbles is fascinated by them. Not in a bad way. She was really quite sweet sitting in the pen and just looking around and washing the patterns of the lights. While she was sitting there she could hear cows mooing in the distance and then a dog barking. She just sat quietly taking it all in.
Nine weeks old
Yesterday was actually Pebbles’ nine week birthday. Mum is going to try to remember to weigh her each week on a Wednesday. She was around 6 kilos when she moved to us and the vet weighed her as 6.2kg last Friday. Well, she’s definitely been eating all her food up. Yesterday she weighe in at 6.76kg. Mum thought she was looking pretty good too. She’s doing that thing of going all fat in the middle for a day or two and then suddenly being bigger and looking as though someone had rolled her out.
