A little game
Mum has been playing a little game with Pebbles. Pebbles is not good at recall. Ok, I’m understating it there – Pebbles has shown no ability to come to Mum when called. The command ‘come’ is for other dogs and not for her. She will do some of the work on a long lead that is suggested, as long as she doesn’t have to eat her treats off the ground. However, take her off a lead and give her the choice to come when called or carry on doing what she pleases and you can guess which option she goes for – every single time.
Tag
Yesterday at the dog park, Mum and Pebbles were having a lovely time. They were working on a number of areas of their training and frankly Mum felt it was going quite well. When it came down to a matter of recall then all that was out of the window. Then Mum started playing tag with pebbles. I’ve explained tag before – we often do it on walks. We will wander along doing our own think and then Mum will call ‘tag’ and we have to run and touch the palm of her hand with our noses.
Pebbles loves tag. At one point she ran full pelt across the field and was still running when she wacked her nose into Mum’s hand. It’s a recall by another name. Ok, so it doesn’t give the nice sit in front of Mum that is going to be needed for some of Pebbles’ exams, but it’s a recall. For the important times that Mum needs Pebbles to come back, we at least have something to work with.
Shed roof
Other than that, yesterday I helped Mum with the shed roof. I sat at the bottom of the ladder to make sure she was all right, while Mum went up to work out why it was leaking. Pebbles was safely in her pen as having her trying to climb the ladder would never have been a good thing. Mum found the problem and hopefully tomorrow I’ll sit at the bottom of the ladder while she fixes it. I’m not sure what I’d do if she actually had a problem, but hopefully I’d think of something if the need arose.
Love and woofs
