Family and friends

Pebbles had a day of family and friends yesterday. She didn’t meet her dad, but she did meet his housemate – her half-brother, Ferdi. She was beside herself with excitement when she was telling me about it. She said they could recognise each other’s smell and it was all very affectionate. He washed her face and ears and was really lovely toward her. He’s older than she is by two years. He’s a beautiful big strong boy and went on to win Best of Breed in the show they were attending. Pebbles wasn’t taking part in the show as she doesn’t feel quite ready for what’s needed.

My friend Cookie

Then she went to meet my friend Cookie. Now, Cookie and I are great pals and like nothing better than to chill out together. Pebbles and Cookie on the other paw didn’t have quite the same relationship. They had a play together, but Cookie found Pebbles a bit too full on and in the end they decided it was better to sit apart for a while. The funny thing was that after that Pebbles did something she never really does. She chilled out. Our Pebbles actually decided to lie down and relax.

Settle

Mum has been using the command ‘settle’ with her for a while, but Pebbles hasn’t taken a blind bit of notice – until yesterday. Mum told Pebbles to ‘settle’ and she did exactly that. We’re not optimistic enough to think that all will now be much easier, but it is a start and a very important one for all of us. Mum has said we can build on that and little by little we can work with Pebbles until she grows into the wonderful adult Mum believes she can be. I can’t wait for that stage. This puppy stage is just too much when you’re old and not on top form.
