Twiddling our paws – Sunday 2nd November 2025

Twiddling our paws

We’re twiddling our paws. Mum is having to spend time helping Granny. Yesterday we stayed at home and Dad looked after us. Today, because Mum doesn’t know how long she will be and Dad has to fly back to America, we’re sitting in our crates in the boot of the car on Granny’s drive.

On the plus side, I’m warm and comfortable. On the minus side Pebbles is driving me nuts. What is the point of every five minutes telling me she’s seen a squirrel when I can do nothing about it?

We are both on a promise of some extra special treats if we’re good girls. I spotted some bacon in the fridge before we came out, so I’m bidding for a share of that. Pebbles will settle for a sardine with her tea.

Retiring

Dad being away so much is really getting me down. He has promised it’s only short term. He is retiring at the end of this year and then I can have him around all the time. Even though waiting feels impossible, I am so excited about him not going away for work. A dog misses her dad when he isn’t there to give her a cuddle every day. I say every day as though I mean once, but I really expect cuddles every hour or two. I can fit a lot of cuddles into a day.

The good thing about Dad is he is much happier to watch television than Mum. Sitting around watching television suits me much more these days than having to spend too many hours outside in the cold. We can wave to Mum and Pebbles through the window. I’m sure she wouldn’t mind that too much. I suppose she might mind if it was raining.
