Glorious mud

Our garden is one big pile of glorious mud. Despite the summer drought, the water table has completely recovered to the point we have an underground stream once again. Part of the rose garden is submerged. If you walk up the orchard towards the spring there are places that the ground is so soft and wet that you find yourself up to your knees in boggy mud. Pebbles thinks it’s fantastic. Mum is less impressed. I’m avoiding it altogether. The thing is that if this continues the garden will be completely underwater before much longer.

Mum has pointed out that as we are half way of a hill and live on a slope, that is very unlikely, but it’s still not good. It’s weird when two of Mum’s projects for the winter are to improve drainage and to introduce irrigation for her crops. We seem to need both.

Pebbles makes us laugh

Dear Pebbles does make us laugh. She has made it clear that she doesn’t want to be in her crate in the utility. However she doesn’t want to be a naughty girl either. In good weather she can spend time in her outside pen and she’s quite ok with that. At the moment, the door of her outdoor pen has blown closed. When she refuses to come into the house, as a compromise she is going and sitting by the door to her pen and just watching the world go by. Of course, she doesn’t come when called and doesn’t allow Mum to catch her, but she isn’t exactly misbehaving and Mum knows where she is.

Mum is now having to come up with some new approaches to entice her inside. Sadly, I think Pebbles is always one step ahead, so it isn’t going well.

Love and licks
