Disaster averted
Well disaster was averted yesterday, but it certainly scared Mum. Pebbles was outside with Mum enjoying the garden. Mum was changing the batteries in the fairy lights and Pebbles was running around like a mad thing tied to a rocket. One of them was having more fun than the other. Unfortunately, one of them also got carried away.
Pebbles fancies herself as a figure skater. The first Mum knew of it was hearing the ice on the pond cracking. Mum dropped what she was doing and went racing over to the pond. Pebbles had gone in at a shallow part of the pond, but when the ice gave way beneath her, she then got traction on the ice with her front paws and ran right across the middle to get off.
Heart in her mouth

Mum had her heart in her mouth as Pebbles crossed the rest of the ice. If the middle of the pond had given way then Pebbles would have been out of her depth in freezing water and too far out for Mum to reach without going in herself. Of course, if she’d had to do it to rescue Pebbles she would have gone straight in, but you can’t blame Mum for not fancying the idea.
Mum gave Pebbles a couple of minutes to run round and warm up and for that matter get over some of the shock. Then she took her inside to be rubbed down with a towel and to take her wet harness off. As Mum said, this is exactly why Pebbles wears a harness in the garden. Pebbles got over excited with the towel and had to have a time out in her crate to calm down.
No ill effects
Thankfully, Pebbles doesn’t seem to have suffered any ill effects from her accident. We all hope she might have learnt a lesson from it, but lesson learning is not her strong point. Mum has said that while the pond is frozen she isn’t going to be letting Pebbles outside without supervision. Even if it means standing outside in the freezing cold in the dark, Mum will stay there to make sure she doesn’t come to any harm.
