Hide and Seek – Sunday 25th January 2026

Hide and Seek

Pebbles has been playing hide and seek. It’s only Pebbles doing the hiding and Mum having to find her, but they may switch around at some point. The funny thing was that Mum had a pretty good idea of where to find her. Yesterday morning, the workmen came to put down some more of the frame of the railway room. They then covered part of it over with some thick plastic sheeting. It makes a very good den and Pebbles has claimed it as her own. She’s going to be so disappointed when the whole thing gets filled in next week and she can’t get underneath anymore. It’s a good job that Mum asked for the underneath to be filled in, otherwise she’d have no chance of getting Pebbles to come in when she wanted her.

Chase

Mind you, I have realised there is another approach which Pebbles will end up taking. It’s going to be a much bigger version of the game of chase that takes place around the island in our kitchen. If there is a whole building to go round, Mum and Pebbles could keep going all day. The reality is that Pebbles is only going to come back into the house at the times she chooses too and as she likes the outdoors, that may not be very often. I’d say she would come back when she’s hungry, but we can both find quite a lot to eat in the garden. I’m guessing there’s going to be quite a lot of shouting ‘fish’ going on when Mum wants Pebbles to come in.

Plenty to smell

I’m just enjoying having a good sniff and finding out about the people who have been working here. It’s amazing all the things you can learn from smell when you’re a dog. On the bright side, the people working all seem very nice from their smell, but it’s probably better not to meet them in person. I’m not coping well with strangers. I don’t always cope with people I know!
