The Power of Cheese – Wednesday 4th February 2026

The Power of Cheese

You just wouldn’t believe the power of cheese. Normally, Pebbles has Emmental. It has the best properties for being used as treats. As a cheese it’s quite nice and rubbery and doesn’t crumble, has a lovely taste and cuts easily into small pieces – except the holes – they don’t cut into pieces at all. We always have some Emmental in the fridge so that when Pebbles goes to training, or when Mum really needs Pebbles to pay attention, she can use it to help. I don’t often have cheese. Partly, because I’ll eat anything (Frankly I’d probably eat the wrapper given the opportunity) and partly because Mum says I need something with fewer calories.

Rutland Red

When we’re really lucky, there will be the end of a piece of cheese in the fridge which needs using up. We had a small taste of the raclette cheese that Mum and Dad had a couple of weeks ago. Yesterday, we were really lucky and I got to share in the luck. Mum needed to use up some Rutland Red on the same day that I was going to my hydrotherapy. She was in a hurry when we went out, so only had time to grab the nearest bag of treats – which was the one she’d made up for using with Pebbles – the Rutland Red. I really liked it. I might have arthritis and have had major back surgery, but it turns out that when there is some Rutland Red cheese on offer, I can still dance on my hind legs. Mum told me not to be so silly– the dancing that is, not the wanting cheese. I thought calling me silly was rather mean of her.

Anyway, I think Rutland Red is now my favourite – although I’ve spotted some Wookie Hole Cheddar, so I may have to try that before deciding.

Love and licks
