Pebbles’ Pen – Monday 27th April 2026

Pebbles’ Pen

We’re having discussions about Pebbles’ pen in the garden. It has been her safe play area since she was very small. Now, she only goes in it when she chooses to or very occasionally when Mum wants to put her safe for a few minutes while the gate is open. Given that the pen gets in the way of Mum mowing and it isn’t really used, Mum is wondering about taking it down. Pebble is not happy about the suggestion and is pointing out all the reasons she still wants it in place. She has come up with three reasons so far.

Pebbles’ reasoning

Firstly, she can run more madly with her small boomer ball in the pen. The ball bounces off the sides and never goes out of range. Mum has said she will still have the whole orchard, but Pebbles doesn’t seem to think that is enough.

Secondly, her pen is the one place that she has really got to grips with digging holes. She’s dug some pretty good ones and was planning to continue working on them at intervals. Mum has pointed out that the holes themselves will still be there. Obviously, Mum would like to fill them in, but when she’s tried, Pebbles has removed anything used to plug the gap.

Thirdly, Pebbles absolutely loves rubbing herself along the side of the pen. It’s like having an elongated scratching post. It also makes a lot of ‘tuneful’ noise when she does it while wearing her harness. Mum thought it was about her harness irritating her, but Pebbles is just as happy to rub along the pen with or without her harness.

Timing

I think the reality is that the pen will come down. The question is when. For one thing there really aren’t enough hours in the day. However, the second problem is that Mum needs to rearrange the whole shed in order to get all the panels in. Mum won’t be daft enough to get rid of the pen in the near future, but storing it will take some work. I’ll add it to the list!

Love and licks
