50 Seconds – Wednesday 7th October 2026

50 seconds

I managed to stay for 50 seconds before moving in my training class on Tuesday. That is by far the longest I’ve ever managed. Mum said it gave us something to work with. She was really pleased with me altogether. I walked nicely at heel and wasn’t distracted by the other dogs. One thing really surprised her was when I actually waited nicely for her to go through the gate at the end of our lesson. Stop is one I can manage and my recall over a short distance was good. I did well at ‘leave it’.

The only real problems, apart from my stay, where getting over excited and head-butting both the trainer and Mum; getting bored and needing a bit of a break – but otherwise I did well. Ok, I don’t settle. There are the other dogs sitting nicely by their humans and I do things like roll around on my back with my legs in the air.

I’m getting used to my new classmates now too. I made Elwood, Buster and Skye – who are all border collies – laugh when I commando crawled over to say hello to each of them. Mum just shrugs now – she’s so used to me doing it.

Distractions

Mum said she was most pleased at me coping with the a tractor working in the nearby field. It didn’t freak me out. I didn’t really think much about it until Mum said that, which is such a change.

Mum is talking about putting me in for my bronze exam. She has talked to me about it and said I may not be quite ready for it, but she thinks the experience with be really good for me. I hope she knows what she’s doing, because I certainly don’t.

Hugs, licks and head butts
