First birthday – Thursday 17th October 2024

First birthday

Tomorrow is the first birthday of our building work. We knew it was going to take around six months when we started. What we’re not sure is where the other six months went. On the bright side, almost everything should be finished in another month – or a little longer. Anyway, Mum and Dad are going to sing happy birthday to the builders tomorrow. They will see how long it takes them to realise why. I might have a little howl as well.

Our front door is about to be boarded up. It’s all because of the work on the new porch, but Mum has said they need to have everything on site to do the work before they board us in. Strictly speaking we won’t be boarded in as we can use the back door, but it will be the last time I can look out of the low level windows. The new porch won’t have windows right down to the ground. Apparently, Mum gets fed up having to clean the nose marks off.

The garden stream

The garden stream has started to flow. The spring has been wet all summer, but fortunately the water table in the garden had gone down and dried out to some extent. Now however the marshy areas are reappearing and the water is going to start moving at surface level again. Unfortunately, because of being ill, Mum hasn’t finished cutting the grass. She is going to have some difficulty in some areas now, unless she can find a boat with a cutter on the bottom.

The next couple of days are forecast to be dry, so Mum says she will try to get back outside to do a little work if she feels up to it. I’ll keep an eye on her to make sure she’s ok. I need to do a lot of scent marking out there at the moment as the fox seems to think it’s his territory and I’m not really happy about that.

Love

Wilma
