I’m a good girl – Wednesday 29th July 2026

I’m a good girl

It’s Pebbles here and I’m a good girl. Mum said so. Yesterday was awesome. I concentrated all through my training session. Maybe except the bit when I rolled around with Ernie. Oh and probably not when I went to play in the tunnel when I was supposed to be doing a stay. Mum concentrated most of the time, except when she was talking to Toby’s dad about cars and didn’t hear what we were supposed to be doing.

Maggie wasn’t there and I really missed her, but Otis, Ernie and Toby were there and we were joined by two young sheepdogs, but I didn’t catch their names.

The importance of treats

Once exercise was funny. The trainer had a bag of treats. The idea was to see if we would walk away from the treat bag being rustled and go with our humans. Mum had Emmenthal. Mum won. Actually, I think it was me who won as I ate the cheese. Apart from F.I.S.H. cheese is my absolute favourite.

I did not do well at ‘stay’. I never do well at stay. My body doesn’t stay. There is nothing my mind can do about it. It’s just the way it is. I move – a lot – all the time. Staying is just plain weird. Our trainer said I’d managed 35 seconds, which is better than I’ve done before, but it wasn’t at the beginning of the time I was supposed to stay. I only managed 5 seconds then. In an exam I’d have failed.

Class act

Mum says I should join the circus, but I’m just being me. At one point our trainer gave us all 30 seconds to see how many commands and tricks we could do in that time. I did more than anyone else. It’s a game we play at home. When I get too excited, Mum grabs the bag of cheese pieces from the fridge and we do a little routine of moves. I have to concentrate as I’m never sure which order I have to do them in. In or thirty seconds I sat, lay down, touched Mum’s hand with my nose. Then I did ‘Middle’ and sat between her legs, then wove around her legs to sit at the side. After that I did a clockwise turn, an anti-clockwise turn and finished by sitting in front of a treat and waiting to be told I could eat it.

Mum wanted me to do my party piece of ‘commando crawl, but the grass was so dry it was really scratchy on my tummy, so I refused.

Hugs, licks and head butts
