Another day another rainstorm
Yesterday really was a case of another day another rainstorm. Mum spent the earlier part of the day catching up on boring human stuff – except making her toasted oat cereal, that is not boring as I help hoover the kitchen floor. Anyway, she was doing chores and said to me, “Wilma, don’t worry, we’ll have lots of time out in the garden later. Now the clocks have changed and it’s light later we’ll have plenty of time.” Boy did I feel cheated when the rain started. Coincidentally that was almost exactly the same time as Mum seemed to have finished what she wanted to get done. I did make the most of having to be on lead at the moment, by keeping Mum out in the rain for a very long time before agreeing to go to the toilet.
Revenge can be subtle when you’re a dog.
The greenhouse
What I didn’t tell you is that the greenhouse repairs are not going to plan. Mum finally started to fix the glass where its leaking. She’s using putty. She did one side of a pane of glass on the roof, as far as she could reach, while I sat at the foot of the ladder to make sure she didn’t fall. That went well. Then she moved to the other side. She was just at the stage of swearing at me, because it wasn’t going quite as smoothly, when someone near us lit a bonfire. Sadly, Mum is asthmatic so couldn’t stay outside. That meant leaving the putty at the point she’d reached. I have to be honest, it doesn’t look good.
We would have carried on yesterday if it hadn’t rained, but I don’t think our greenhouse is ever going to look quite like the perfectly repaired version that Mum has in her head.
