Naming storms – Friday 23rd August 2024

Naming storms

Naming storms is all a bit strange if you ask me. I realise you probably weren’t asking me, but I still think it’s strange. The latest storm to cross the UK is called Lilian. How can anything with such a lovely gentle name be bad? You don’t think of the same Lilian and immediately associate her with having so much wind and such a wet personality. If it were me I’d think of a nice elderly lady. I don’t know any dogs called Lilian so I’d tend to think of a human.

What I don’t understand is why the storm is called Lilian anyway. I thought Mum said something about it being the tail end of the storm that was called Ernesto before. At least Ernesto sounded as though it could be mildly menacing.

Making plans

I’m starting to make plans for when I visit my family next month. It is so exciting. I haven’t seen my sisters for so long. Of course it’s going to be very sad that Mama isn’t around now, but at least I can have a good catch up with Valeria and Tosca and remember the old times.

I’m not going to be staying quite so close to my mountain this time. It will be sad that we can’t just walk from where we’re staying and go straight up the mountain, but Mum has still promised we can go there most days. She loves it as much as I do. We’re both looking forward to some rest and recuperation. And ice cream – we’re both looking forward to some ice cream as well.

More than anything it will be good to have a break from the building work. It won’t be finished while we’re away, but hopefully they can make good progress.

Love

Wilma
