The stages of dog
Mum thinks the stages of dog are quite remarkable. When we come into the world we look more like little guinea pigs than anything else. We have snub noses so that we can get to our Mum’s milk and our bodies are more straight lines than the elegant curves we have as our muscles develop. After that we are puppies. Our ears are too big for the rest of us, our noses are still short and we fall over ourselves as we run. Then, after a very short space of time we become little dogs. Pebbles is not quite ten weeks old and Mum looked at her yesterday standing just like an adult dog and looking beautiful. Obviously she’s still a puppy, but we can start to see the dog she will become.

New commands
At the moment, apart from learning ‘go’ means toileting and ‘come’ means Mum wants Pebbles to join her, Pebbles is now learning ‘sit’ and she’s doing very well. There’s always a treat on offer and Pebbles seems to think that is a good idea. She’s even willing to drop dangling from Mum’s jumper in favour of a treat if she sits nicely. She’s pretty fast at reattaching to Mum’s jumper.

New experiences
The new experiences which Pebbles had to absorb yesterday were mainly around noises. There was the sound of next door’s wheelie bin, which she found very interesting. Then the was the sound of Mum using her drill and hammering. I told Pebbles she’d hear things like that quite often and it’s usually followed by swearing. In yesterday’s case it was to put a dog gate in place so that Pebbles can have free run of the kitchen but not do the stairs down to the garden room. The only problem is that Dad keeps tripping over it. He’ll get the hang of it eventually.
