Moving target
Pebbles is a moving target. The only way that Mum can get ointment into her eyes is to manage to move at the same speed and in the same direction as Pebbles is moving. As you can imagine – it’s not going well. Whilst I hate eye drops, I’ve got completely used to having ointment put into my eyes. My current medication has to be applied under my eyelid with a cotton bud. I sit quietly while Mum does first one eye and then the other. Mum reminded me that I didn’t used to be quite so good, so I suppose I shouldn’t be gloating about Pebbles’ behaviour.
Squeaky toys
One of Pebbles recent discoveries is just how much she loves toys which squeak. She didn’t used to bother with the squeakers and would just play with the toy without making a noise. Now, she’s learnt that age old trick of lining up all the things that squeak and playing an aggravating tune. That is marginally better than when she runs round the kitchen growling at her cow toy. Mum says the main problem is that she gets overexcited and gets all bitey. On the bright side, Mum has chews at the ready to put in Pebbles mouth so that she channels her inner biteyness into something acceptable and doesn’t take a chunk out of Mum’s arm.
Five months old
Today, Pebbles is five months old. I know that’s not a significant birthday, but it means Mum will be talking her on slightly longer walks. Generally we reckon that we are ok to walk for five minutes per month of life. Any more than that at one go on a regular basis is not good for our developing joints. Although she does go to different places, her regular walk is down the quiet lane opposite our house. It is going to surprise Pebbles when she doesn’t have to stop at the big oat tree. She has got into the habit of going to the toilet on the verge by the tree and then being ready for Mum to pick up after her and set off back. Now they will walk right down to the corner before they turn around. Another month or two and she will outgrown the walk altogether.
