Not in my plan – Sunday 8th Jun 2025

Not in my plan

A whole day of intermittent thunderstorms yesterday was not in my plan. Mum thought my idea of sitting in the egg chair was a good one, but said we’d need to wait. Now I need to see if it is today we’re waiting for or if we’re going to have more rain. We’ve gone from having an average rainfall of about a third of what is expected in the previous 30 days to catching up. And it’s all happened rather quickly. Even the pond is beginning to refill, much to the pleasure of the newts.

Buzzards

We did have one quite sinister moment yesterday. Mum and I went outside only to find a pair of buzzards circling. Now, I don’t mean they were high up in the sky. No! They were circling at only just above apple tree height, right over our garden. To say it was all a bit intimidating would be putting it mildly. That close up, they have a very big wingspan. Anyway, Mum wasn’t taking any chances so went out and made a loud noise and waved her arms about. I said she should have sent Pebbles, but Mum said that Pebbles is just as precious to her as I am. I was going to point out that she wasn’t saying that on Tuesday, but thought better of it.

No accounting for taste

Mum is still using up anything that she can find that might go out of date or has gone out of date, to make treats for Pebbles. Some flavour combinations appeal less than others, but beggars can’t be choosers – and boy, can that dog beg. Actually, it is more demands than begs, but what’s the odd grab bite between friends? Pebbles is now going to be trying blackcurrant yoghurt and ham. I just hope Mum never has any plans to open a restaurant.

On the bright side, when Pebbles wasn’t running off with Mum’s giant teddy bear – that is not supposed to be a Pebbles toy, she did have times of resting nicely on a dog bed. This was the third day running that she’d shown periods of calm. I have my paws crossed.

Love and licks
