How did Pebbles get on?

I know you all want to know the answer to ‘how did Pebbles get on seeing the behaviourist?’ I’ll try to explain.

The behaviourist came prepared. She was wearing old clothes and a coat, expecting to have to see Pebbles outdoors. Instead, after she and Mum had a long chat, Pebbles came in to join them in the kitchen. Mum did give Pebbles one of her favourite chews to help her settle, but it meant that the behaviourist was able to have a cuddle with Pebbles, which they both enjoyed.

Training – planning for success

The behaviourist complimented Pebbles and Mum on all they are trying to do with training and how well they are persevering. She also said that Mum is right never to set Pebbles up to fail. They didn’t go for a walk on a stormy day as Mum knew there was a serious risk of Pebbles being reactive when it really wasn’t needed. The same is true of not walking her in busy places before she is really ready.

Much of the training will only come now with time and regularly repeating what is needed. It’s a question of stubbornly continuing to work on things and there are few people as stubborn as Mum – except maybe Dad.

Physiotherapist

There is still a question of whether any of Pebbles’ behaviour is driven by pain. Even Mum has conceded that her back left leg looks a bit stiff, but then sometimes it’s the right. Pebbles is going to see a physiotherapist to have a full examination of her movement. Her DNA test does show that she has both genetic mutations for something called CDDY which can be an indicator of Intervertebral Disc Disease. It doesn’t necessarily mean it will ever develop, but the likelihood is higher. Hopefully the physio won’t find any signs of pain, but it’s best to know.
