Building Muscle – Wednesday 19th November 2025

Building muscle

Thanks to my regular hydrotherapy, I’m building muscle on my back legs. Considering my arthritis and my back operation, I’m not in bad physical shape for my age. If only I could build back a fully functioning brain in the same way. Mum says that if I were to exercise my brain as much as I do my legs then it might help. I’m not really sure how I can do that. As a dog, it isn’t as though I can sit in my crate doing crossword puzzles or Sudoku, in the way that humans do. I’m sure years ago Dad told me that playing on computer games could be good for the brain. I’m wondering if anyone has designed computer games for dogs yet.

I talked to Mum about it and she said it might be worth us starting to play some of the games she plays with Pebbles. Maybe going back to some sort of regular training programme would pay dividends for me too. Perhaps teaching an old dog new tricks is exactly what we should be trying to do.

Feeling the cold

The sudden drop of temperature isn’t great when you’re older. Mum remembered to take my dressing gown with me to hydrotherapy and I was very grateful for it. That was all right until we got home. Mum put it on the radiator to dry and Pebbles promptly pulled it off and dropped it in our water bowl. Then when Mum tried to retrieve it, Pebbles wanted to run off with it. Mum got quite cross with her and told her in no uncertain terms that she was not taking it as I needed it. Anyway, it’s now in the washing machine. Mum’s next job is to repair Pebbles bed, which has mysteriously come unstitched.

Love and licks
