The decorations are down – Tuesday 6th January 2026

The decorations are down

Well, the decorations are down. I supervised as Mum and Dad went to from room to room collecting everything together. Mum dropped another of the glass baubles so I had to stay out of the way while she swept it up. As they finished a room I went to check if they’d got everything. I stood in the lounge and laughed. Every year, without fail, when everything else has gone we find that Moose is still wearing his Santa hat – sure enough, there it was. Last year it was months before we spotted it. Mum dutifully went to get the ladder and removed it. The lights are still up, as was the plan. Mum will take the mains operated ones down but she says she’ll wait until the temperature is above freezing.

Pebbles’ Training

Pebbles’ training class is cancelled today as her trainer is away. She could have joined in one of the other classes, but as her glans are swollen and it’s so cold, Mum has said they will wait until next week. By then we will know what the vet says about her glands too, hopefully.

The apples

The remaining apples that have fallen off the trees since Mum cleared up are disappearing quickly. Obviously, Pebbles and I have been making the most of them, but we are not alone. At the moment our garden is a real centre for wildlife. Mum stood watching out of the window yesterday and got very excited to see both Fieldfares and a Redwing in the orchard. I’m glad we’re helping wildlife but it does mean there are fewer left for me. I guess while everywhere is frozen there need is much greater than mine. I do at least get three meals a day even without an apple supplement.
