Glorious Mud – Sunday 19th April 2026

Glorious mud

We sure have glorious mud in our garden. That is at least Pebbles’ opinion. The spring in the corner of our garden is doing its thing, very effectively. Under the apple trees at the top of the orchard we have a very wet patch of ground. One member of the family, thinks it’s wonderful and is never happier than when seeing just how deep she can sink her paws into the ground. That would be Pebbles.

Another member of the family, sees it as a horrible hazard, especially after she slipped on it yesterday when cutting the grass. That would be Mum. The problem is that with an underground stream and warm air the grass in that spot grows about three times as fast as anywhere else. Taking that combined with the fact that the mower sinks into the wet ground, and it is not Mum’s favourite part of the garden.

As things are, we are wondering if it will ever dry out again.

On the plus side

On the plus side I did give Mum some encouragement yesterday and she got the parsnips planted. I was a bit concerned that the robin seemed to be threatening to eat them, but Mum assured me he was looking for any worms that were easy to get at when she dug the channels for the seeds to go in. I stayed vigilant just in case, but he seemed harmless enough. Mum seems to like having him around and I did feel a little jealous.

Today we aren’t gardening. Pebbles and I are in dog care for 24 hours so Mum can go to her concert tonight. She was really sorry, but doesn’t like leaving us too long and couldn’t see she could get to the concert in time and look after us. I was resigned to my fate. Pebbles of course was really excited because it means she’ll meet other dogs. Some days, I really wonder what it’s like to be Pebbles.

Love and licks
