Happy birthday to me – Friday 23rd October 2026

Happy Birthday to me

Happy birthday to me and to all my brothers and sisters. We’re two years old today. That means we are all now officially adults! Just kidding – I’m still a puppy. Without any question, I am not ready for the responsibility of adulthood. My plan is to stay an eternal puppy and take no responsibility for my actions whatsoever.

What I hadn’t appreciated was that I would be waking up in kennels on my birthday. Mum had a couple of days away and sadly it was the same time as my special day. I’d be thinking of holding it against her, if it weren’t for the fact that it makes it easy to go on a group walk tomorrow. Mum will pick me up first thing and take me straight there, which has to be a good thing.

More about my character

Genetically, my levels of fear and anxiety are typical. That of course doesn’t include what happens as a result of being an ‘overseer’ and needing to test everything new – which is not a genetic thing. I don’t especially mind being groomed either. Now, here’s a good one, I have a typical propensity to gain weight. That should mean that as long as I lay off the cream cakes and eat a healthy diet, all should be well on that score.

The next one made me laugh. Who knew that whether I mind getting wet is genetic? Clearly I live in the right country as I’m less likely to mind getting wet than the average dog. That will be good news for tomorrow – for me at least.

Am I boisterous?

Genetically, I’m only slightly more likely to be boisterous than is typical. I guess the rest of my likelihood isn’t a genetic thing then! And I’m only ‘typical’ for my likelihood to get bored, which suggests there are other factors than my genetics at work here as I get so bored, so quickly! All – the – time!

The funny one is that I am less likely to chase prey. I think someone needs to have a word with the pigeon I caught about that one. Perhaps it was just in the wrong place at the wrong time and coincided with my mouth being there. Who knows?
