Upstairs downstairs – Monday 26th October 2026

Upstairs Downstairs

I seem to be playing a game of upstairs downstairs at the moment and it’s fun. When Dad has been on a long distance flight, because of the risks to Mum, he quarantines for a few days when he comes home. Normally, I’m not allowed to go upstairs when I want, but given how much I adore Dad, Mum has said it’s ok. The gate which is normally closed is currently being left open.

There is just one tiny problem. When I’ve been up to see Dad and check he’s still there, I get so excited that I come flying downstairs and launch myself at Mum. She has taken to barricading herself into a room while I’m gone so that I have to pause before seeing her. It’s a bit like her hiding behind the recycling bin when I’ve done a lap of the garden and want to run straight into her.

Checking the boundaries

Given how windy it has been, Mum has gone round checking our boundary fences a couple of times. One of the lemon trees had been blown over, but it’s ok. Mum seems to think with the fences that it’s important for her to find any problems before I do. I’ve been checking them regularly too, of course.

On the downside, because of the weather neither Mum nor I really wanted to be out too long. Every time I went out something scared me and I came back at the speed of light. I don’t take being surprised well. Mind you, Mum doesn’t take it well when I surprise her. I’m not sure if she should be more understanding of how I feel or if I should stop trying to surprise her. I’m guessing she may have a view on that.
