The importance of Duck
Yesterday I was struck by the importance of Duck. I don’t mean in a general sense. My four soft toys are incredibly important to me. But suddenly, the middle of yesterday afternoon, I needed Duck. I needed him immediately. Mum heard me going to my crate to get him. She’d shut the door on the latch to stop me taking everything out. I do rather have a habit of doing that. Anyway, when Mum found me I was pulling at the locked door for all I was worth. Realising I was having a crisis, Mum opened it for me. I breathed a sigh of relief and went in to collect Duck. After that I was happy. I threw Duck about a bit and made sure he knew how much I needed him and then settled down. Once again, all was right in my world.
Today’s training class
I’m not feeling optimistic about my training class today. If I’m being honest, I was rather hoping Mum would say we didn’t need to go. I really do not like windy weather and I don’t like rain. Mum doesn’t either, but she said my need to go to training outweighs those things. We have been indoors quite a bit over the last couple of days and I was thinking of trying hibernation, so she’s probably right. Let’s see how we go.
On the bright side, if I really don’t like it and can’t cope with the weather at least I know that Mum will bring me home. We have an understanding about that. She has learnt that trying to encourage me to carry on when I’ve lost the plot, just doesn’t work. It’s always best if I don’t see the horse in the field with its blanket on. Goodness knows why, but that horse is the quickest way to get me to freak out.
