Pebble Dashed
Outside the UK you might not know what pebble dashed means. It is used here to describe a coating on the outside of houses where small stones are thrown onto wet cement. In this house, being Pebble Dashed is used for the similar process where our puppy hurls herself against you with force. At the moment, Pebbles tends to roll in the mud before launching herself at Mum. Mum changes her clothes and within five minutes looks as though she’s been wearing them to wallow outside. It doesn’t help that we’ve got more mud than a hippo ever dreams of. In fact, the rose garden now resembles a stream with water running through it. Mum is worried that if it carries on much longer we may lose the roses altogether.
Crufts
Originally, Mum had hoped to show Pebbles and to qualify her for Crufts. That is not high on Pebbles’ list of preferred activities. As Mum said to someone yesterday, it would be like trying to play volleyball with a live grenade. Somehow, I don’t think the judges are ready for Pebbles. It’s a shame, because she really is very good looking. She doesn’t mind. She says she’d rather do something more active – much more active. Standing still is as likely as her becoming a neurosurgeon.
On the bright side, if Mum goes to Crufts without either of us, it will be much easier for her to carry back all our presents. At least, that’s what I’m hoping. I guess I should decide what I’d like Mum to bring for me and start dropping hints. Something edible might be the most sensible suggestion. I’m not short of beds and to be honest we do have plenty of toys. There must be some really nice tasting biscuits I could ask for.
