Men’s Football World Cup
The last time the England Men’s Football team reached the semi-finals of the world cup was in 1990. Way back then, there were no Entlebuchers in the UK – not any. Mum hadn’t even heard of us back then. I was going to do a new picture showing us playing for England, but Mum asked me not to. Unfortunately, I gave Pebbles number 7 for the Swiss team and the corresponding player was sent off for diving.
We can’t imagine Pebbles getting through a ninety minute game without being sent off. She’d come up laughing if she’d faked a dive, but she’s probably more likely to nip the referee or linesman.
Anyway Mum asked me not to jinx any of the England players.
Watching the game
There is one other small problem. The semi-final game is on Wednesday night. Wednesday is Mum and Dad’s 20th wedding anniversary. When they were making their plans to celebrate, I don’t think they had thought to factor in watching a football match. Being married for that long is quite an achievement, but it’s been even longer since England men were in a semi-final, so I guess it will take priority. If only it could have been against my beloved Switzerland. Now I just have to hope that England win, for my homeland as well as for themselves.
At least the football is on at a reasonable time this time, so it won’t be quite so hard to stay up to watch it. I can just about stay awake long enough from 8pm as long as it doesn’t go to extra time.
Ball control
To keep you going in the meantime, I thought you might want to watch Pebbles practicing her ball skills. She’s very good at controlling the ball but not so keen on passing it to any other players.
Love and licks
