Rollercoaster
Wilma seems to be on a rollercoaster. After her anxiety on Thursday caused, from what Mum has read, by a surge in adrenaline and cortisol, yesterday Wilma was suffering from what was described as an ‘adrenaline hangover’. She was pretty much comatose asleep during the morning and afternoon, only waking when Mum gave her food or took her outside. When she did wake up a little more after tea it seemed to be for the whole process to start again. Mum has to keep giving her things to take her mind of it, otherwise she just stands and barks.
Poor Wilma, she really doesn’t know where she is with all this. Mum was waiting to discuss it with the vet when I spoke to her.
Missing Mum
Today I’m missing Mum and wishing I was at home with her. It’s Mum’s birthday and Dad is still away. She was planning to spend some time gardening, but the weather forecast is really bad so I can’t see that happening. If Wilma is well enough I think she might go out for a while just to take a bit of a break. I should be there. Whilst I may not be the gentle calming presence she seems to think she needs right now, I do make her laugh – and that’s important too. When I’m around, Mum can’t help but smile, even if it is right after despairing that I don’t always do the right thing.
The Raten
Mum had planned to spend her birthday in her favourite place. That’s The Raten in Switzerland. There is a big picture of it in our hall, taking up a whole wall. Mum said she might just get a chair and sit and look at it, or even take sandwiches into the hall and pretend she’s there. I guess she can pretend she’s there with Wilma and they can remember the better times when they were actually there together.
