Endless list
There seems to be an endless list of things I need to do on behalf of Wilma. When will I ever get to perfect my football techniques? I agreed to write the diary for ‘a day or two’, nothing more. Now Mum wants me to write Wilma’s column for the Club magazine. She has to be having a laugh. Wilma is the Club’s agony aunt. She has years of experience to draw on. There are lots of things she knows about that I don’t. Besides that she’s quite a wise old bird. More importantly, she actually cares about other dogs’ problems. Ok, so I don’t need to say it, but I’m just not wired like that. Tell me you’ve got a problem and I can promise to find a way to make it worse. It’s just how I am.

Different approach
The only thing I can do is take a different approach. No dog wants an ‘agony aunt’ who replies along the lines of ‘get over it’ or ‘just go and play ball’, at least I don’t think they would. I’m not really sensitive to the emotions of others. I find it very hard to read both dogs and people. Wilma, apparently, has very high emotional intelligence. Me – I’m a bit of a numpty on that score. It isn’t that I mean to get it wrong. I just bounce my way into situations and often accidentally bounce all over them.
Anyway, what I’m thinking is that I could maybe interview another dog on the issue I’m asked about. That way, I don’t have to do the actual thinking. Except for the questions. I guess I have to think of some questions to ask. Wilma was going to write about what it’s like having an eye test, something I have no experience of at all. Now I just need to find a dog who I can ask about it. I’d ask Wilma, but she’s really not feeling great and Mum said I shouldn’t bother her.
