The smell of cider – Friday 25th October 2024

The smell of cider

I’m quite familiar with the smell of cider as Dad likes to have a glass once in a while. He’s still planning to make cider when he retires, but hasn’t got there yet. Anyway, when Mum was mowing the grass yesterday, she ran over a load of rotten apples with the mower. The smell they gave off was definitely cider rather than just plain apple. I promise, I didn’t eat any of those ones. It did however make me think of Aristotle who used to seek out the ones like that. Mum swore he was occasionally a little more laid back than normal, but that was saying something. Mum is going to rake them up today to make the mowing easier. I think she’s trying to make sure I don’t have them, but she needn’t worry.

Warm dry days

It may rain a little today, but otherwise Mum says we should have a few more warm dry days. We’re working hard to get as many outside jobs done as possible while it stays fine. It’s not so easy for me to help with the hedges as the grass cutting, sometimes Mum even makes me stay indoors so I’m safe. Painting the shed I sit next to her while she works. I’ve missed being painted so far, which is more than can be said for Mum. We’re on the second of three coats of the light colour but it is taking quite a while to cover it all. Mum’s aim is to have that finished by next week. Then I can take a picture of it and you can see what you think. It certainly seems to make people smile, so I guess that’s a good thing.

Lunchtime

It was funny yesterday. I confused the builders. Mum had to go out so she gave me my lunch a little early. Obviously I called to the builders when I went out to the toilet. They all checked their watches as they thought it must be later than they’d realised. They know I have my lunch at 12.30, so if I bark they presume that’s the time.
