Christmas decorations
The Christmas decorations plan has begun. Last year, because the building work had started, Mum didn’t put up all our outside lights. This year, although the building work hasn’t yet finished, she is determined to create our own little winter wonderland once again. In case you hadn’t realised, Mum does not like winter. She doesn’t like the dark English days and the grey dreariness that we have to live with.
Of course, I’ve tried to persuade her to move to Switzerland, but it’s not that easy. Apparently you can’t just live where you like. And although I’m Swiss, and I think parents are allowed to move to join children, me being a dog means that I don’t get the same rights.
Other solutions
Mum instead has to find other solutions. If you’ve been following our building work, you may have realised one way she does this. Mum has lots of bright colours around our home. The builders have laughed quite a lot as they wait to find what colour they will be painting a room next. The latest one is in a Wisteria colour and I have to say, we all rather like that one.
The other thing Mum does to get through winter is to go a little crazy on Christmas lights. By the time we’ve finished putting them up, lots of the trees in our garden will have twinkly lights which come on for 6 hours a day. I think at last count, we have about 2000 lights, although each year some seem to go to fairy light heaven and new ones join the family. I may be wrong, but I suspect that for every set of 100 which are thrown out at least two new sets arrive!
The big ‘light put up’ is about to begin. We may be gone some time.

Wilma
