Mice refugees – Tuesday 19th November 2024

Mice refugees

We have mice refugees and they are causing problems. Mum says that the problems are relatively minor and it is our own fault. When the gardeners came last week, they did tell us they had disturbed some mice in the garden. They had been living in an overgrown patch of garden in the middle of one of the flower beds. It probably wasn’t too bad a place for them to live and Mum did feel bad about them having to move out. She says as long as they don’t come into the house, she doesn’t really mind them sharing our space. That was until they moved into the greenhouse.

The squash crop

As far as we can see, they have only eaten one of the very small squash that are sitting on the trays in the greenhouse. They stay there to ripen and keep well over the winter, as long as they don’t get eaten. Mum isn’t really sure where they are living and doesn’t want to disturb their nest particularly, she’d just rather they didn’t eat too much of her crop. They may have found some of the bird seed too, but Mum says that’s ok. Mum says we will just keep an eye on things rather than cause them any distress. If they eat too many of the squash it’s the squash we’ll move rather than the mice.

Under surveillance

The lemons are in and being kept under surveillance. The weather looks better again at the weekend, so they may go outdoors for a few days. If they do, they will just stand near the doors to the rooms they are in. Mum doesn’t plan to move them back to the greenhouse, she says that is too much work. The one in the garden room has is standing on some thick stones so that the bottom doesn’t get quite so warm. Paws crossed the precautions work.
