The puppy pen – Saturday 23rd November 2024

The puppy pen

Today’s job is to find a level piece of garden to secure the puppy pen. Mum has ordered some pegs to hammer into the ground to hold it in place safely. The pegs will come on Monday, so before that we need to find the right place for it to stand and make it secure. Our whole garden is on a slope. Mum doesn’t want to have to do any digging to make things level. What could possibly go wrong? I will of course be supervising – from a safe distance. I’m planning to use the time to rummage around in case I missed any apples.

Sorting the cupboard

Mum and I started sorting out my cupboard yesterday. We’ve found a collar, lead and harness that will fit Pebbles. Mum needs to order a tag to go on her collar with our details on. We also found some of the slow feeding toys so that Pebbles can have fun getting treats out of them. It will take her a while and help to develop her ingenuity. Mum says she will set that up for her in a pen so I can’t have the food that comes out – that wasn’t part of my plan. We have to go out to the shed to find the pens that need to come into the house, but I think that will be on Monday.

Other preparations

Mum says we can go to the pet shop to look for some of the toys we need for Pebbles. We might go to the one in Switzerland that I like as we’ll have more time there. By the time we get back it will almost be time to collect Pebbles.

I’m a little apprehensive about it all really. I know I’ve said for ages that I really want a puppy of my own and I’ve missed having other dogs around. The problem is that the reality is quite scary compared with imagining the nice parts. Mum has warned me that bringing up a puppy is hard work and I really do want to get it right.
