Making New Friends – Tuesday 4th February 2025

Making new friends

Pebbles has been out making new friends. She was so full of excitement when she came home that I felt a small pang wondering where it had all gone so wrong for me. When did I become so reluctant to integrate with other dogs? Anyway, back to Pebbles. Mum took her for a walk up into our village. It’s a very quiet village with not a great deal going on. Mum was surprised by how happily Pebbles walked next to her on the way up the hill. She wasn’t pulling or trying to run off, just trotting along by Mum with her tail up and a smile on her face. Mum expects all that to change just as soon as they start their training classes next week!

Flat Coated Retrievers

On their way back, Pebbles met two Flat Coated Retrievers. They are friends of Mum’s, mainly because they know she always has treats in her pockets. Anyway, Pebbles wasn’t overawed by them at all. She didn’t jump on them, but was very respectful. She wasn’t submissive but simply nuzzled them and let them sniff her. Her tail wagged madly. Mum said it was all rather lovely.

Labrador

Then she met a one year old fox red, yellow Labrador. Pebbles showed she would like to play, but didn’t bounce on her. The girl was in season and did tell Pebbles off when she sniffed her bottom, but it was all done in a lovely way, so Pebbles simply got the message and didn’t do it again. Pebbles thought she was amazing and wanted to follow her on her walk, rather than turn back off into our drive.

Then she came rushing in to tell me what a lovely time she’d had. That was when I began to wonder if I might be missing out. It’s hard when your have health issues not to lose sight of how to have fun. I wonder if maybe Pebbles might just be able to help me remember.

Love and woofs
