Pebbles’ Lake District Adventure – Monday 31st March 2025

Pebbles’ Lake District Adventure

Pebbles is having a Lake District Adventure. I have opted out. To be honest, with my eyes as they are, the thought of standing on a windy moorside is not what I want to do. Pebbles on the other paw is having a fantastic time and is wearing Mum out.

They are staying where I stayed last year, so I can picture it all when she rings. Unlike me, Pebbles has taken a crate to sleep in, so that Mum can get to sleep without worrying what she’s up to. Also unlike me, Pebbles is refusing to go to the toilet anywhere other than the little field behind the guest house. She is one strange puppy.

Derwent Water

Yesterday Pebbles went to Derwent Water. She was telling me about it as though I’ve never been. For one thing, she couldn’t believe how many people and dogs she met. She thought it was wonderful. In particular there was a lovely female Husky that she really wanted to play with. Then there was a huge male Mastiff that Pebbles was totally in awe of. When it came to the lake itself, she thought playing in it was the best thing ever.

Mum’s perspective on the walk was a little different. Because Pebbles loves everyone and has not realised that every person doesn’t want to meet her, Mum spends her whole time having to make sure Pebbles doesn’t accost complete strangers. When you add the risk Pebbles poses to ice creams carried by small children, geese on the lake and people in wheelchairs, Mum spends her life on high alert.

New experiences

In addition to all that, Pebbles saw alpacas for the first time. There were plenty of sheep where she walked, but she’s used to those from being at home. What she isn’t used to is the joy of sheep poo. You couldn’t believe how much she was raving about that when she rang.

It’s only day two and Mum is already exhausted.

Love and woofs
