Specialist referral
I have a specialist referral for my eyes. A normal tear production rate for a dog is 15mm or more per minute. My eyes are only managing 3-4mm now and they really are very uncomfortable. They are so bad that quite often I just can’t open them to see and keep walking into things. My right eye is worse than my left eye, but both are affected. Having ruled out so many simple things the vet doesn’t know what’s left. She thinks a tumour seems unlikely because both sides are affected. Now we have to make sure everything else has been covered before they send me for a CT scan.
Blood tests
I’ve had blood tests to see if there is any change to my thyroid, but whilst that does seem to be an issue, it doesn’t seem to be the cause of my eyes. Mum has had one other thought and wonders if it is a spinal problem in my neck. Obviously I’ve already had some spine issues, but lower down. I have been hunching my neck, which is one of the things that made Mum wonder. When she looked it up, apparently there is research that shows neck issues can affect tear production, but they don’t know quite how.
Anyway, I’m seeing the eye specialist on Wednesday morning.
Pebbles vet visit
Pebbles’ visit was much easier. She simply had a tick but was too wriggly for Mum to either a) identify the problem or b) remove it. It’s the first tick any of us have has since Alfie was about Pebbles’ age. It’s a real shame as Mum had moved us onto herbal treatment and was much happier about that than using chemicals. However, as Pebbles spends so much of her time in places that are higher risk, Mum thinks we had better go back to the treatment we were using before. She’s really disappointed as she wanted the herbal remedy to work just as well. As it’s done our coats so much good we may keep having it anyway.

Pebbles got on the scales while she was at the vet – she’s now 19.2kg. It means her growth has slowed significantly, and she’s become taller and a bit gangly, but Mum says she’s looking great and is happy with her progress.
Love and woofs
