Fish – Sunday 20th April 2025

Fish

I’ve learnt the word ‘Fish’. For reasons I don’t understand, Mum said she needed an emergency command. I don’t know why she has these emergencies, but what do I know. From my point of view being given a sardine is always a good thing. Anyway, when Mum shouts ‘fish’ if I go to check she’s ok she gives me a sardine. She does it at the most inconvenient times. Yesterday, there I was with one paw in the pond when Mum shouted ‘fish’. Another time I’d just discovered a really juicy piece of rotten wood with rusty nails in it and yet again ‘fish’. The worst part was that when I went back to find the wood, it had gone.

Apple trees

Wilma told me weeks ago about how wonderful apples are. What she didn’t say was how good apple trees taste. Dad has some little trees that he says are root stock. They were in Mum’s vegetable trough as a temporary home and she needed to move them to put the carrot seeds in. Two of them are in pots, so she put them in front of the greenhouse – for five minutes. Apparently, it’s amazing how much damage I can do in that time. I was brought inside while Mum found them another home. She won’t tell me where they are now, but she seems to think they’re safe.

Herbs

I’ve been having a nibble of some of the herbs too. I like sage. Mum had cut one of the plants back and I was able to run off with the cuttings to nibble at my leisure. Mum did sigh and say something like that was better than all the pieces of slate that I’ve moved from the border and left around the grass. I thought they looked better not being all in one place, but it seems Mum sees it differently.

Wilma

Wilma has had another very quiet day. She’s taking all her medication and trying hard to do as she’s been instructed. Mum says she thinks Wilma’s eyes look a little better than they did, but it’s still early days.
