A Hard Day’s Work

Pebbles and Mum did a hard day’s work in the garden yesterday. They might not win a ‘best compost bin’ competition, but they are our compost bins. The two ‘new’ ones, are made of lots of ends of reclaimed wood and pallets and are solidly built. They still need to have fronts added, but Mum has had to order some brackets for the wood slats to sit in. That will mean each compost bin is around a cubic meter in size and will have cost approximately £11.98 to build. Not a bad job all things considered.

Pebbles kept trying to stick her nose into the saw, the drill and the screwdriver. Then she was chasing bees.

Hot day

You could tell it was a hot day as despite being outdoors for hours, Pebbles did very little fast paced activity. She’s funny. She really does not like the heat. Although she is a completely crazy dog who will run all day in the winter, when it’s hot she heads for the shade and chills out. I did suggest to Mum that might be the answer. If we moved to a hotter country then Pebbles might be calmer. Mum thought that was a bit of an extreme suggestion.

Apart from fixing the fronts of the compost bins, I think today might be about some more normal activity like mowing. Although I think Mum might be removing the weed suppressant she so carefully put in the squash bed. She had to walk across it yesterday and found the weeds growing underneath it were bigger than the squash plants themselves. That did not go down well. Considering how hard she worked to get it all set up, I’m keeping out of the way when she finds out just how bad it has become underneath the fabric.
