A dog on a mission – Tuesday 15th September 2026

A dog on a mission

Today I’m a dog on a mission. It’s my first day back at dog training after my season. I am so excited. Mum has warned me that some of my friends have left in the meantime, but I can deal with that. At least, I hope I can. I’m a very friendly dog. Mum says the problem is I’m too friendly. Sometimes other dogs can be a little bit overwhelmed by my approach. The new ones who have joined my class are likely to be younger than me. Mum says I must remember to give them space and let them introduce themselves as and when they are ready. Apparently not every dog or every human likes to be totally bulldozed by my enthusiastic approach.

Remembering my commands

Mum has been doing work with me at home, so I haven’t actually had a month off training. Having said that, it’s always harder work with more distractions. And I am easily distracted. Cheese helps. Mum likes to make sure we have plenty of cheese handy. When cheese is being offered I do find my focus improves. It’s just there is never quite enough cheese to keep my attention for very long.

Favourite Place

I have a new favourite place. Because Wilma is getting very stressed if Mum and I are in Mum’s office, we spend as much time as we can elsewhere. Obviously that means lots of time gardening, but sometimes Mum has work to do on the computer and so we can’t be outdoors. We have started using the railway room, which is sort of outdoors, but isn’t. What I mean is that it’s a separate building so Wilma isn’t upset by us being there without her. It means while Mum is sitting at her desk I can have the window seat. It’s a great place to see what is going on outside and very comfortable for the odd little nap.
